The White Horse Tavern in Newport features American cuisine in a historic setting that dates back to 1673. Stories say that in the 1720s, two drifters showed up at the tavern looking for a room. The next day, the owners of the tavern found one of the drifters dead by the fireplace and the other had disappeared. Witnesses have claimed to see the drifter's ghost hanging out by the fireplace where he died, daring people to solve his mysterious death. There has also been reports of a ghostly colonial-looking man in the upstairs bathroom, and mysterious footsteps that have been heard throughout the tavern.

  • Went in to enjoy cocktails with my son and daughter

Great service and charming atmosphere. My daughter wanted to visit the historic tavern before her trip back to Virginia. Staff was kind and professional. As we were going to leave, my son went upstairs to use the men’s room. He came back to tell us, when he first opened the door to the restroom, he saw a gentleman in a white shirt and plaid looking pants, he stepped back outside to wait. When some time passed, and no one came out, he opened the door again, no one was there. So?????
